Title: what you think
Post by: Kev on February 22, 2011, 02:47:06 PM
this is off another detecting forum but thought it was a interesting read ,what you think

I have lived all of my life in this small village near Doncaster( other than contracting away) and I have tried my hardest to get detecting permission on my local fields. And I have had limited success, " you can go on for a week" but usually its "we already have someone detect". But I go out with my dog health permitting, every day nearly, and I can count on one hand the amount of detectorists I have seen, and thats with a thumb and finger amputated  and I don,t think they have had permission. One farmer said yes but on condition the developers said ok, they said no  They have just dug some test pits every hundred yards in a grid pattern on 60 acres of fields, with a jcb about a metre square and a metre deep then filled them in again. Obviously to check if there is any archeology down there before they start building work  WHY could,nt they liase with the FLO/ PAS and get some detectorists on? they could have held a rally and charged using the money for the PAS or a charity at least they would have some knowledge of the land, I know a coach road went through these fields to a neighbouring village mansion house. And these fields are undetected and will soon be under houses and tarmac ,how frustrating
