Title: facial reconstruction
Post by: Dryland on February 05, 2013, 01:13:09 AM
After watching the program on Richard 111 last night and watching
another history program earlier, where they were doing facial reconstruction
using clay, it made me wonder. If two different experts had access to the same skull
would they come up with the same facial reconstruction or is this mostly down to
artistic license ?

Interesting question  :-\
I think, from what I've seen there are set measurements for muscle, flesh etc on heads. These seem to be followed by all that I've seen but as to hair colour, compexion, eyes etc I think sometimes artistic licence is used.
As I heard one lady say, if you know you've got a Hispanic, Arfro Caribean or Asian skull then colouring can be fairly acurate but Europeans are so mixed it could be anything from blond, blue eyes to brunette and brown eyes.
I thought the lady who did Richard was very generous with the fleshy parts but who am I to disagree. I also thought she made him look too young.

over the last say 150 so called experts have talked a loada tosh that was ridiculed at later dates about varied claims .

;D Mike I'm sure I saw that bloke on crimewatch , possible reward  ;D
Thanks for that Val , I'd love to see an experiment done on this though,
Galoshers, I was thinking the same thing about Dick 111 and about how much
the paintings of him influenced the facial reconstruction.
As  for the resemblence between the great great etc. nephew and
his great great etc. uncle, I think my dog looks more like him and I haven't even
got a dog.
