Might not be for you but i just have a very small amount of iron mask and hunt wide open i find this helps with I.D. when at extreme depth and run sensitivity at maximum.

I can't add anything to what Paul has said, those settings should be the same on beach and land, that is one of the beauties of BBS and FBS machines, the set up is the same for both

alright guys ,just got back from saundersfoot beach .been out with my cousin goldquest .i had a lot trouble with false readings and ferrous/conductivity numbers where not consistant at all.experimented with the noise cancel and turned sensitivity down as suggested on other forums but was still unstable.there was a lot of black sand though.we did'nt have much luck but while we were there a friend of my cousin turned up an found a gold ring, fairplay to him he is 87 and a member of the pembroke club and a really nice guy so came home happy anyway.aparently someone has lost a really expensive ring there lately. OK Mike firstly forget about the numbers, they lye...end of. Secondly just press noise cancel and let the machine decide, don't play with it. and lastly just turn on auto +3 sensitivity and you should cut out any and all falsing.
You have got to remember that the Etrac/Explorers are audio discriminators, which means it is going to make lots of noise and the learning curve is knowing what the good signals sound like thus ignoring the rubbish ones.
Keep at it, I say to people it takes a good 2 months to really get used too.

Do not be fooled by the ring pull tone as it sounds exactly like most plain 9ct gold rings

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but that ring pull tone you've learned, well..... it's the same as the gold ring tone  Cheesy
No easy way I'm afraid, the old saying still holds true "if in doubt dig it out"
