Title: Hoard on tour Post by: adesace on January 17, 2011, 07:22:08 PM Staffordshire Hoard going on tour Monday 17th January 2011, 7:00PM GMT. Items from the largest hoard of Anglo-Saxon gold ever found will go on show in Stafford in the summer. The Shire Hall will be the first stop on a tour of the county for the Staffordshire Hoard, with a dazzling display from July 2 until July 24. The hoard, found near Lichfield, was valued at £3.3 million and was saved for the nation by an Art Fund appeal that raised the money to buy it and place permanent displays at museums in Birmingham and Stoke-on-Trent. More than 40 star items, including the pectoral cross, the biblical inscription and the seahorse, will be featured.. Skilled conservators, researchers and museum experts are currently working on security arrangements, developing 3D models, and creating displays that will explain the new exciting discoveries that are being uncovered. The tour will move on to Lichfield Cathedral and Tamworth Castle.
