Title: Button ID help
Post by: IFINDNOTHING on February 12, 2011, 07:51:41 PM
I found this last week, probably a "Claire's accessory". Found about 7" deep in sand about 100 yards from a popular beach if this is any help.

IFINDNOTHING, well you have this time :)
A nice and unusual find on these shores, It's a Union Navy button from around the time of the American Civil war.

Well if it were authentic it would date to the 1860's, I have to admit I can't find any with the vented back that yours has, but then again I can't find any modern repro ones with it either. So as it would only be 150 years old even if it was real, therefore it may be virtually impossible to ever find the truth.

Thanks Chef Geoff, personally I thinks a repro, but I like it still, another one for the button box again! Tx
