I was presented with a big biscuit tin full and asked if I could have a look through and advise on values before they were taken to a dealer.
These are some of the silvers. The majority are 1900's commemorative Crowns which are worth very little.(Not in pic.) A couple of surprises though. Unbelievable but a couple of coppers are worth more than some of the silvers. As an active coin person, I quite often get asked to look at people's collections / things they got from their (grand)parents and usually it is later pre-decimal, so it's nice to see a bit of a range there. As there are (seemingly) fewer and fewer collectors - at least not young ones - I've been trying to get my son interested - so he's had quite a few hammered from me and I have caught him pinching all the coins with his name (Alex, so a mix of Scottish, Greek and Roman) from my coin cabinet, as as he says they have his name on them...... |
