Ok so I bit the bullet and brought a Deus lite as that's all my wallet lock (the wife  Grin) would allow. Ive glanced at the manual looking at all the shiny new brain busting information that I have to absorb  Huh this was me after an hour.  Question is can you auto ground balance the machine or do you have to do it manually? also I'm pretty sure you cant do this but is there a way to turn the coil off or do you have to keep it on constant charge?

Thanks guys

The coil stay active all the time and you are not able to turn off. Ground balance is pre set at 90 which works well on most sites there is another set of numbers below the 90 this is the actual ground balance present, you can maualy lower this with the right hand button and follow menu this will give you alittle extra depth but not much but will quieten down the Deus  abit, also there is a tracking mode in the menu which alters to the ground as you detect. There is also a manual ground balance as  well. But just starting out with the Deus, stick to the preset 90 and you will be fine. Wink

Thank you for the reply, think I will do as you suggest and save myself a headache and stick with the pre set ground balance.  Thanks for the informative reply will come in handy when I start messing with it properly

Welcome to the XP Deus fraternity.

It will be worth joining garys detecting  forum through any search engine.

There are at least 10 detailed videos there and lots of other data on his specialised XP site.

That way you can forget the users guide and watch a hands on how to get the best from the Deus. Wink Smiley  Jerry.

Or you can make life very easy for yourself and make it a turn on and go machine.  It is designed for European ground conditions and we are European (I think).
One important thing to remember........When you turn on.........Hold coil off the ground and away from anything metal or electrical (and that includes overhead wires)
Get used to the programs 1 at a time, see which one you like most for a particular field and stick to it.

I went down the 'tweak this and tweak that' road and in the end followed the average users advice and used the pre set programs.  The most I 'tweak' is the iron discrim. and volume. Disc. out to 28 with 0 iron volume. Makes for a quieter session on contaminated sites.

The wet beach setting needs a few changes though. Look in your manual for advice on that otherwise it'll drive you to the point of finding out if it can swim.

You can create and save your own programs (that's another story) I did it for the beach, very useful because every setting you change goes back to pre set when you turn off.
