i know this will probably be a bad time to ask this question as colin hanson has only just passed away , sorry if this offends anyone it's really not meant to
if the fid will cease to exsist now colin has passed away is there another federation for detectorists with insurance for the responsible detectorists
sorry to ask a question as delicate as this ,as no doubt some of you on here could be personel friends with colin

It would be great if someone could take over the FID as it would be a great way of keeping Colins legacy alive.

Had a bulletin today from FID signed by his wife. They will cease being operative when their insurance expires in December this year. All monies that FID has will be donated to GWAED Fund, which is the local cancer charity that helped her husband so much.

Couldn't someone take over the running of FID ?
I really don't like the idea that there'd only be one option left. Perhaps something for one of the clubs to take on, or DW ??

I think its the end of the road for F.I.D. and Colin was the person who set it up with help of his wife Elaine... It has been operating for about 30yrs and it has helped with insurance and advice to many thousands of solo and club members.,.Colin was always at the end of the phone with his cheerful manner and Elaine has seen its time to shut it down. I say on behalf of the hobby a big thank you to Colin and Dave Wood for thousands of hours put in ,in support of our great hobby..Its time for a new organisation for the solo detectorist and hobby as a whole Smiley
