Title: Some of the better Roman coins . . .
Post by: Neil on February 02, 2010, 05:59:16 PM
I was inspired by James' finds this evening to have a look through my Roman coins I have found that are in a decentish state to date. Most of these have been found in Wales with two exceptions. I have found plenty of grots as well, but most are illedgible.

They range from Republican to 4th Century.

Anyone else who would like to add their Roman coinage they have found to date that are in decent nick feel free to.

Cheers
Neil

hmm - nice thought neil,  i would definitely recommend getting the BM roman expert, sam moorhead, to come and speak to your club. he spoke to our group last friday and delivered a fantastic talk.

we arranged it through our FLO -- it was very enlightening as to what had been found by detectorists across the uk and how the knowledge was enhancing the understanding of how the Roman occupation and trade had developed, plus how the collapse occurred and how certain areas were affected.

a superb event - -well worth him coming to speak to welsh detectorists

cheers

Middle row, second from left - very nice condition Neil.
I had a small Roman bronze on Sunday, but poor condition.  I guess a lot hinges on what chemicals (and cattle wee  :D) are leached into the soil over the years.
