Title: Interesting Field
Post by: Rob Two Spades on July 02, 2015, 09:49:27 PM
I had permission to detect on new farm the other day and after a few hours had very few finds from really promising pasture fields that where full of nails, I then decided to max out my T2SE to 99 sense, 2 disc on the bp setting. I immediately started to get very iffy signals amongst iron grunts, numbers around 42-52, I dug them all and got loads of buttons and coins from farthings to pennies in the range of early 1700s to early 1800s. They were all deeper than 11" so I reckon the field had not been ploughed. My most interesting artifact was a iron stained pipe stamper (see photo) in the shape of a hammer.  Moral of the story - if you use a T2 don't automatically reject the signals below 45 because iron and depth can pull those numbers lower.
