Title: Return to Wiltshire
Post by: Roman (Ray) on August 07, 2012, 02:02:57 PM
HI ALL.
after a great day last thursday me and the lads decided to have a return to wiltshire.got to the farm house just after 8.30.i did,nt get to meet the farmer last thursday so his son showed me the fields in which to go in..at the end of the day we went back to the farm house to show the farmers what we had found and offer him some of the coins we had found.but we could.nt find him again.lol..so i left the coins outside the farm house door.
when i got home i phoned him to thank him for a great day out on his land.45 mins on the phone he was telling me all about the history of the village and we were wellcome to come back monday ( yesterday )
when we got to the farm id just missed him he had gone for breakfast so i knocked his sons door to tell him we were here..
his son came out and said my fathers not happy because you never filled your holes in..now i know we all fill our holes in tidy so i was a bit confused as we,ve never had trouble with holes before.
anyway out on the field.s we went and we could see why he was.nt happy half the holes had been ripped up but no cow.s had been in the field since we were here last thursday.we could only put it down to the animals maybe badgers going for worm.s or some other animal.
also we notices the animal that did this had been doing his busness in the holes..dirty bugger.lol.on with the detecting gavin had first find of the day with a nice george 3rd made into a pendant.about an hour later young rod had done it again finding a lovely whole crotel bell welldone rod.ian also had a nice milled william 4th four-punce (groat ) and just befor we left rod had a nice silver vicky six-punce..myself i broke my record on the buttons having 46 in total.not the best of day for me.at the end of the day i went to see the farmer and explain these holes and tell him its some tipe of animal thats ripped the divits back up and not ianjohn.lol.well i could.nt find him again.i cant see the farmer letting us detect there again so i hope the animal that did this terrible crime .lol is happy with himself.and myself ill just have to take it on the chin i guess.
but apart from that it was another great day out with great company.
all the best
roman ray.

Well done again guys ;) If there was droppings in the bottom of the holes then your spot on with Badgers, though usually they dig there own so they're probably pretty grateful to you lol. there is usually a line of them and it's how they mark the boundaries of their territory.
But rabbits will rip clods up for a pass-time just to get to the roots.

the holes that you dug and filled in could have been dug out again by badgers to use as badger latrines this happened in my garden and i had to fill the holes with rubble to stop them  would inform the farmer that he has got badgers in his fields and they may be spreading bovine tb if his cattle get it they will be put down i think the farmer can still shoot badgers to get rid of them as they have not stopped the culling of badgers yet .look on google for badger latrines it has a lot of information.
