Thanks for clearng that up Charles. I am okay as mine are the newer model. I have to admit it had me worried! I have a Canon Ixus V3 Digital camera which is a brilliant piece of kit but even after buyig a new battery and new charger the batteries don't seem to hold a charge for more than a few hours! I didn't want the same with my Quattro. Thanks again for your help.

Don't forget, Jon, that a camera needs to use the batteries even when off to hold the software inside from dropping out I think. Anyway I regularly have to charge mine up regularly so don't worry about it especially if you use it more than I do mine now.
I have a Dimage Minolta Z3 and it is a big one these days, it uses some juice.  Undecided

NiMH batteries do in fact suffer from memory effect. One of the U.S. Universities did research on this about two years back but on the other hand they said they were able to "hide the effect" better than NiCads Huh

I would not say that Nicads are always a second choice battery. NiMH's are sold as frequent use cells. The discharge when not in use is far faster than the older NiCads. One of my pulse machines listed as providing five hours detecting on full power from its pack of NiCads (which is half a brick size) after nine years of use gives just over six hours running time. Only ever recharged when the batteries are near flat and the recharge time increased by a few minutes every couple of months.

For PP3's I tried Fuji cells from E-Bay which are 2600 NiMH just because they were the cheapest high rated ones at the time. A year later they are still working fine.

£12 plus postage for four PP3's but I had to buy two packs of two to get that price for some weird reason.
