There is an area of Common Land near to me and I was wondering if

A) I could detect it
B) If I found anything who would be the landowner who I shared ownership of the find with?

Totall hypothetical....I never find anything valuable  Roll Eyes

Jonola ,  I made enquiries about detecting on common land, specifically, Llantrisant Common. All common land is owned by someone, normally its owned by the council or some other representative of the town.

Turns out the guys and gals that give the Yay or Nay for activities on Llantrisant Common are the Freemasons, I wrote them a letter that was read out in one of their meetings, offering to also attend a meeting and show what I'd found ect. and the answer was .

NO

I thought they may have been interested Undecided

So I think every common must be treated like a farm and permission granted.Thats just my experience to date and does not mean other people will have the same problem.

This common land is just scrubland. I'll have to go back up to the gate and see what the metal sign said. You can see Twm Barlwm from there and it is high ground so you never know. Loads of little streams running through peat. Cheers for the input Rob. always amazes me how the people who have the say on whether detecting is allowed on land are so narrow minded. Sounds like you bumped into a few of them.
