HI Mathew went there last week looked promising with all the sand pushed up on the steps, could hardly see some of them ,in front of the retirement flats, however after an hour or so gave up, very few signals sand must have been brought in by see as apposed to being stripped off the beach! Still that was last week tides are low next week mate

i have been there once a week since the last suposed major storm which never came off and the sand has just been brought in instead of being taken off.
 bugs the hell out of me cos i love that beach

Been to Aberavon a few times last week and short visit this morning until I was called out to a job.
As you all know, the conditions can change with each tide. On the first visit last week we came away with quite a few modern coins and a very nice Royal College of Nursing badge, then the next day things had taken a dive, and very few signals. This morning was only a short stay of 30 mins, but still managed to find half a dozen modern coins

aberavon is one of the best beaches around  .its all about the timing

Was over there today and the lorries were putting the sand that's blown off the beach back on. I'm def going over this Fri or Sat
as its a low tide. Never found anything there but the food in Cafe Remos is very good, and its within a stone throw of the detecting area.
Best of both worlds.

Down at Aberavon for 3 hours today - bracing but clear blue sky for a nice change.  Found 16 fishing weights (!), approx. 25 bullets, 8 coins the oldest being a QE2 sixpence, a 'wicked' bracelet literally with those words on and 2 rings!!  Began metal detecting with my Dad in 1976 with a C-scope detector that my Grandpa bought us - it didn't work most of the time; began detecting again in earnest with Dad in 2006.  Four years ago today he was taken ill for what would be the last time; rather than brooding at home felt this was the way to spend the day.  Not rich in the monetary sense from today's results but the experience was priceless and Dad felt close.

Well done Howie, I spent many a happy time detecting with my dad down there too and I always feel close to him whenever I am there.i know exactly how you feel:)

Your story touched my heart strings Howie, I lost my dad a year ago and he loved to come out with me occasionally and when I'm out I feel he is with me in some way, but as yet he hasn't led me to the big pot ;)keep an eye out for you sometime
