Well said Avalon. Copyright remains with the originator for life and 70 years after their death and should be paid for each time an image is used. The best people for this as the DACS, www.dacs.org.uk There has been a struggle with the archi fraternity ever since detecting began in this country and no amount of sucking - up will change their aims.

I think the "Archi fraternity" is a bit of a sweeping statement as only certain members hold that view that Detecting should be banned.
I have witnessed first hand the damage that detectorists can do to an archaeological site, even well meaning ones, just through the ignorance we all have of what we are actually digging "through", so I can understand their views.
Unfortunately we can't un-invent the bomb but If I had my way I would licence the ownership of Metal detectors, not as before where you just popped to the post office and paid your 15s but by completing an awareness course run probably by PAS, which would not only up their budget Grin but also rid the hobby of some of the "get rich quick" merchants.

I must admit my statement was rather OTT and I should have said much the same as you have Geoff. Sorry.
