Title: William Penny Post by: celticspikey on October 04, 2018, 08:29:59 AM I thought I would put up a better picture for those interested.
Doc has ID as (William 1st profile right type) this appears to be one of his rarer ones. Any chance now Doc of a moneyer / mint.... ;) Title: Re: William Penny Post by: marknewbury1 on October 04, 2018, 09:23:43 AM That's a beauty

Great coin ;)
Title: Re: William Penny Post by: Dale on October 04, 2018, 02:11:43 PM Trying taking a new photo in hand with out the red back ground, it's amazing how that can change the look of a coin, i can see ..PINE ON.. I think
Title: Re: William Penny Post by: The Doc on October 04, 2018, 04:28:16 PM I agree with you Dale that "...PINE ON.." is there.
There were many mints that struck this type though, so not necessarily London. Title: Re: William Penny Post by: Dale on October 04, 2018, 05:11:29 PM Hi Peter, when I did the post I was woundering how true it was that the cross and trefoils issue was only struck at London, it's a 20 year old book I have what might need updating!!
Cheers for the info ;) Title: Re: William Penny Post by: celticspikey on October 11, 2018, 06:54:51 PM Hi Guys here is an update on the William from Peter Spencer
William 1, type V11, reverse reads- PINE ON LIN, The mint is Lincoln and the moneyer Leofwine or Leufwine. The mint and moneyer combination is extremely rare for the reign/type. Therefore , you have unearthed yet another cracking find. I'll certainly feature this in The Searcher but I can't say exactly when. Spikey ;) Title: Re: William Penny Post by: Mungo on October 14, 2018, 08:14:43 AM lovely coin 8) 8)
