hi found this last year local, think its bronze? its gone to cardiff to be identified no news yet ,"any thoughts out there??"

1inch long and about 1 inch at its widest point, about 3/8 inch thick there is no hole, but traces of metal on the bottom  mick

Nice find. It's a knife end-cap (sometimes called an end-stop), like this:
