I honestly can't remember the last time I posted a find in fact I can't truly remember the last time I went detecting outside of a rally Huh but after me saying my farmers religiously harvest in the first week of August they went and gave me a body swerve by getting a few fields of wheat in on Sunday Sad so this morning a spent a few hours on a field that has given up quite a few Roman brooches especially about 3 years ago.
Heat, long stubble and hard ground didn't help things along but once again a fibula turned up this makes a nice round total of 30 from this field and while many have been around the time of the invasion this is certainly the first that could be from before 43AD, it's a La Tene type III 50BC-50AD. La Tene aren't that common anywhere (though far from rare) not in comparison the Roman brooches that take over which probably translates that only certain people followed the brooch fashion or that their clothes didn't match this form of fastening Huh

Yes Geoff it's a stupid question  Cheesy Cheesy but I'll tell you anyway Grin La Tene is a town in Switzerland where a huge amount of artefacts where found in a lake in the 19th century all of which showed a similar artistic style brooches, swords, shields, bowls even chariots and so this "style" became known as La Tene, a little like Celtic or Beaker it's a cultural influence rather than a time period Wink
