Yes I agree Jondav, I'm in the south west and in October you used to get a couple of good storms that would strip back the beach, but it's not happened in the last few years.

I lived in Cornwall for 10yr & remember rushing down to the Sea front when a fierce storm hit just to watch the huge waves come crashing over the promenade, lifting pebbles as they came inshore & smashing onto peoples cars, causing all sorts of havoc........."oh the good ol`days"  ::)

You want to come down my caravan in Somerset, during the week its lovely , soon as the weekend comes its rubbish then when the  kids six week holidays came , god did it blow , over a two day period, seven caravans damaged, and TWENTY NINE awnings and tents destroyed, i know i rode it out , walking round the site helping to put up collapsed awnings. ok so they are not so often, but we still have them

Hi Jondav

Your right we just havnt had the gails like we used to ;0(

Me and my better half went to Porthcawl for a ride few weeks ago and half way down the beach the sand was stripped back you the black sticky mud layer something i havnt seen in years.
I dont member any bad weather so maybe tidal action ?

all the best
Phil

I agree :-\ , at the moment all of my detecting has been at the beach, but because of the lack of gales, and no rough seas, the sand around the Porthcawl area is just getting deeper, hiding the goodies, i guess after the next good storm, we will all be down there  ;D  ;D  ;D

I've never had anything old on  the beach, last time I thought I had a Vicky halfpenny down deep deep , full of crud. When I cleaned it , it turned out to be a 2p piece  :'(
