That I can tell you is a South African coin, before the Union of South Africa, used in the Transvaal and Orange Free State Republics. "ZAR" on the coin stands for "ZUID AFRIKAANSCHE REPUBLIEK" and the bust represents Paul Kruger (President before the war broke out), I'm sure you have heard of the famous gold Kruger Rands. This was more than likely brought back here during, or after the 2nd Boer War from 1899-1902, from a trooper returning from the army, probably as a keep sake. They are quite collectable, very good silver!! Check the dates against eBay etc.
