Went out for a couple of hours today and found my first piece of gold ever.
It's a lovely ring even if it is plain and small.
Any help With an ID would be great. Anyone know what the markings inside mean?

weldone jon,looks really old mate :o,the markings are ancient sumerian and say you have now got gold fever lol.very nice.

Found it on land by the way. A frield I was sure I had worked fully. Found a silver love token to. Thank you new coil. Lol ;D

Its a pain in the ass but your need to report it as a treasure find,nice ring

It looks very early to me .... but Peter will have the answer for you soon  ;)

I would say it was medieval, but i do not think its a posy ring,as it only seems to have a very short inscription



This looks a little like it

Circa 13th C Medieval gold posey ring with full Lombardic inscription and with the flower possibly representing the wound of Christ- working on the legend to dechiper it - Reported as treasure to Colchester museum 22.38mm O/dia x 1.64mm T , 2.77g

I think that's a hallmark rather than a posy-type inscription. Hard to make it out though because it's rather worn. What do you make of it Neil?

Hi everyone

Just a quick update on my gold ring that I got back from Mark Lodwick this week.

Turns out its not treasure but still dates from aroun the late 18th to early 19th centuries. He says it's probably a wedding band and the markings on the inside are worn makers stamps.

I know its not treasure and not work much, but I'm still delighted. Lol  :)
