just a quick question i found a button with a anchor on the front and on the back it says treble gilt can you actually id buttons?

no theres no letters below the anchor only the treble gilt on the reverse Roll Eyes

Well the treble Gilt just means how many times the button was Gilted to give it its gold colour. There was a few different qualities of gilding . Gilt , double gilt and treble gilt - treble Gilt being the highest quality.

When I go detecting my wife gives me quadruple Guilt far outweighing any fear that the wearer of that navy button would have had when faced with the enemy.......  Wink
