Title: Septimus Severus
Post by: BottyBurp (Kris) on April 02, 2009, 03:15:27 PM
I managed to get out for a couple of hours today for a change, I had a handful of Roman Bronze with 2 Brooches then this beauty popped up!

I'm not too good at identifying coins but I believe it's a Severus Alexander something, not sure what denomination though!

Great find Botty - I'm no expert on Romans - Peter (Doc) or Borderfox are good on them and I guess will reply soon.

Keep up the good work

great find bottyburp  :o
there were practically no silver coins struck between the years AD 270 and 350.
and as i understand it, and im no expert, the term Siliqua refers to silver coins struck after AD 350.

As zorro said - this is a denarius, the siliqua didn't come in until about 320 AD under Constantine I.

That's an amazing coin, almost as minted after so many years in the ground, well found Botty
