Hi all,

My name is Jonathan and I am from Cardiff and very new to the world of Metal Detecting (2 weeks!), and this site, and just wanted to say hello.

Just bought a Garrett 250 my first detector (apart from a cheap one when I was about 10 years old - loved that thing and is probably why I had a yearning to get back into it 30 years later!).

Been out a few times to the beach and a field. Have found a few coins (and a lot of rubbish) my best so far is a 1906 old penny and now I have well and truly got the bug!!

The problem is finding places to go?

I am hoping to join a club (Cardiff Scan Club) at their next meet next month and hopefully meet some like minded people who can show me the ropes.

Any help or advice on any aspect of this great hobby would be well received, especially Garrett 250 settings and tips, beach searching and where else to go?

Thanks all,
Jonathan

Welcome to the site Jonathan - you are going about it the right way by joining SCAN and becoming a DW member also.

As a SCAN member  (I also belong to them} you will automatically have access to the club land and be able to attend the rallies they hold.

As a Detectingwales member you are also welcome to attend our frequent rallies - of which we have at least four lined up at the moment, with more to follow.

I think the 25O is a great introduction machine to the the world of detecting. I have never owned but lots of members on here have and still do. I am sure a few of them will give you some tips.

All the best

Thanks Neil,

I hope to get on the rallies as soon as I have a few more hours under my belt.

Hope to meet you and the other SCAN members on the 8th Sept.

Cheers,

Ok I have done it!

I have signed up for my first Rally (I think?) .

Put my name down for the Ludlow Rally on the 5th Sept.

What's the deal here how are you notified of directions etc? It mentions that we will be contacted by 'personal message' - is this an email? or through this site?

Cheers all - see you there if your going.

Hi Johnathan, Welcome to the site. I'm nearly a newbie so can tell you they're a great gang on this site. They'll help you with anything, just shout.
They advise you by E.Mail. Hope you enjoy your 1st rally and find lots of goodies.
Happy hunting
