Hello All.Managed to grab a quick two hours today and turned up this little beauty.I am so chuffed,my second hammered Grin
(My first being at the DW Wraxall rally earlier in the year,a day I'll never forget, thanks guys)
I've had a good weekend really. After talking to one of the club "elders" earlier in the week,I decided to go really slow, slower than I've ever searched.I do a really slow walk and swing according to the speed of my walk if you know what I mean.I've realised this gives you much more time to investigate some of those "rising" tones, that build slowly as you work a small area rather than the obvious "first time"loud ones.Anyway on Friday night I tried it out and found another first for me, a William and Mary 1694 farthing, unfortunately barely legible but hey ho,still a first.I also found various other, better than usual finds.
So today I went back to the same spot where I'd left off, switched on to Deus fast, pumped it,took five steps and got a sweet signal and a 52 reading.I dug a spadefull out and there it was. When I spotted it I let out a wow!
I've had a look in my Spinks book and I think it's a Henry II,Richard I or a King John due to the short cross and four pips per segment.Could anyone id it more precisely please?Cheers Neil Wink

An excellent find, if you're finding cut quarters then you're not missing much.

The letters on the reverse are ELM, so the moneyer could be Gocelm, Bartelme, or more probably Willelm.

Any chance of a larger and sharper pic of the head side, as that may mean we can narrow it down to a particular class and monarch if enough detail is there?

Thanks for the new pic Neil. Will take a bit of study to see if I can narrow it down a bit. Will see if I can give you an update tomorrow.

Hi All.My quarter has been recorded and it is either a Richard I or King john,1194 to 1204.I'm well pleased with that.My oldest hammered so far. Grin

excellent Neil, a lovely find well worthy of pride of place in any collection.

Well done on recording it as well, it all helps add to our nations historical database.
