Title: Soggy Conditions Post by: celticspikey on February 01, 2018, 09:43:16 AM Tuesday I started off on a field that looked sticky under foot and to be honest it never disappointed it was horrendous to say the least. I persevered for an hour but it got the better of me again. Same farm different field the other side of the hill and yes this field also broke me after 2 hrs. So I went to my medieval field in the hope of some luck, only took 20 or 30 steps and up popped the cut half in picture short cross and a Henry I think not ID it yet, unfortunately as this field has crop in it digging made a mess so once again I had to leave. I made the decision to head a mile or so away to another farm which being on higher ground and rotted flat stubble I knew would be a safe bet for searching. over the years this field has produced some memorable finds but its one of those fields that you can search for 5 hrs with little to show, any way after 2 hrs up popped this nice little Silaqua.....After the terrible start the roman gods shined...lol.
Well rite now I'm packed and heading off to a roman site, this time pasture but hoping the grass is not too long, let you know the outcome....Happy Hunting ;) Title: Re: Soggy Conditions Post by: probono on February 01, 2018, 10:03:00 AM Nice :) still waiting for a siliqua or a Tealby...
As I'm sure you know - the siliqua is of Julian as Augustus, but before he grew his beard out :) - Arles mint, third workshop. c. 361AD The cut half is a Tealby (Henry II) - there are some faint letters on the reverse, but I can't see them well enough to see if I can make out a mint or monneyer. You sure do spend a lot of time on the fields, probably even more than me and Ron, and you definitely deserve all the success you have. Brilliant stuff!!!
