As the title says I found this a few years ago and have never been able to positively ID it! I have shown it to Mark (FLO) and he is unsure of the date ranging from late Medieval to 18thC. I have shown it to SCAN members and posted it on here when the site first started, but I am still none the wiser.

I found it in bizzare circumstance as I was heading a long a dry stone wall and lifted my detector to get past some tall weeds and got a beep from the wall! I pulled out some of the weathered stones and there lodged halfway up the wall was this little fella!

I know its the cat and the fiddle as in from the nursery rhymes (which always go well back in history and have hidden meanings). I know that its made of bronze. I know that its not a door knocker and I know that its not off the end of a poker. Any ideas lads and lasses.

Thanks for any suggestions

Cheers lads - I don't want to sell it Phil, but I may trade to you - I am rather partial to sovereigns! Grin
