Before a certain date the pics have all been lost on the changeover. A lot of time and effort has been put into salvaging them but to no avail.

On the basis that I think this query is going to keep cropping up, would not the sensible option be to call this "day 1" and erase all reference to the past entries?

I take it that it's only the attachment pics that have been lost and not those put into the actual
post, i.e. hosted elsewhere ?

Yip , you're right RJM , only uploaded pics are missing, those hosted on photobucket ect. are fine. Would be a good idea actually if everyone used something like photobucket, save on site traffic and easier to organise

That's what I do as the photo's are actually better quality and also no need to click on them to enlarge.

Some like to see their pics on the site heading so won't use it.

Perhaps a quick lesson on how to host and post might be a good idea to encourage use?

I've just come across this same problem. I was looking through some of the mailing on 'photographing your finds', only to have suggestions on how to improve an image
with no actual images.

Regarding online image storage, I use 'flickr' for most of my personal / non commercial image collection. It saves a lot of computer disk space and is accessible to the world to view.

If using this type of facility, be aware that there are many people out there who will use your images without asking your consent, so only upload low res unless your
prepared to have them pirated.

Not sure about flickr but on Photobucket you can make your albums private, invitation only  or open to public view. Uploading low res defeats the object of saving computer space.
