Post by: Al.Thepastfinder, ( Alan ) on July 30, 2010, 07:01:54 AM
Iv'e been hoping for some good weather and to get time on my hands to go to the beaches,
i found a forged £1 coin a couple of years ago there with the colouring fading.  i was hoping to put it with my ground acid/ salt /wet damaged coins on display in the museum, but couldn't find it, doh.

iv'e found some new information now on Checking them out, hope this is helpfull to you.http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-10774366 (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-10774366)

I have been informed that if you rub the edge of the coin on white paper, the paper will have black markings on it, if the coin is a forgery ??? ??? ???

Hi Tracy

Ive had a few lately
I havnt seen or heard of anywhere that doesnt take them,
You might have a problem if you change them in the bank because they weigh them.
You could try a cash changing machine like the ones in Asda or Tesco, only put a pound in and see what happens first.
Youll have to give 7p in the £1 to charity tho

all the best
