This piece of lead came from an area of pasture this afternoon, approx 8 inches deep, euroace in coin mode.
It's a dense coil of lead squeezed so that it fits naturally between thumb and forefinger, it has a very smooth flat base. Any idea what it might have been used for ?.
Thanks in advance.
Adrian

Hi there "Artcat"hemmmm....!!!!as a suggestion it could be a ROMAN soldiers curse, apparently, in those days when they wanted to get back at someone they didn't like they would write a curse on a piece of lead, and then bury the piece of lead and this would ward off any evil spirits for the person that buried the lead, but also it would put a curse on the person who's name was inscribed within.
Saying that however, the pieces of lead were normally about twice the size of the one  shown.
But there again it may have inadvertently been cut up(plough).
You could risk unrolling it !!!!......YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED !!!!...LOL👻👻

Cheers dingdong
Somebody suggested it could be a wedge for fixing lead flashing into the mortar course of brickwork !
Your suggestion sounds more intersting, but it does feel like some sort of tool.
