Yes i have detected on boatside farm and still have permission to do so

of course not on or close to the fort itself...

I have over several years had many finds but nothing at all roman...

My mother in law is close friends with the farm owner hence my permission.

i do know that a few local Hay lads also detect there on a regular basis.

oldest find was william III coinage. PaulB.

Isnt that always the way Paul !

Places like Church,s, Roman and Parish roads, Canals ect ect all seem like great places to detect but in most cases your not the 1st Detectorist to have thought that.

Its the thought of being the 1st to Detect somewhere that keeps us going i think lol

all the best
Phil

Pauly, I take it you mean Boatside Farm. It has had a succession of visitors over the years and I am not aware of anything being found bar a few bits and bobs. Two former members of this site have been detecting up there recently and was not aware of them finding much either. What most people do not know is that this is not the only Fort near Hay. A slightly larger one and a smaller one lie very near by, along with a Fortlet. Along with a Roman period settlement and as we speak I promised you a picture of the Roman Road through Whitney but appear to have stumbled on a Villa. I am seeking permission to look at the site as we speak so bear with me for a day or two and I will get you a invite if permission is granted. Roman Road picture by Weds Pauly.
