after 7 long years of waiting for that moment, to knock the one wished for item off my wish list, i thought i'd achieved it yesterday.

today i'm not so sure, its very light, doesn't pass the silver foil test and so, i am doomed to continue the search!

What is interesting is that it does have a makers mark, has some hard to photograph ' possible hallmarks' ... but more research is needed!

i also got a very flattened aluminium thimble with  MIZPAH marked on it

enjoy

Interesting find Alan. Looks like a gents size from the pici.  At least it's whole (no pun intended) I've only found bits and el cheapo ones at that.
Carry on the good work. Wink

Close Alan, but no cigar mate!

By the way MIZPAH is a Hebrew blessing and was commonly marked on items during both World Wars purchased to give to a loved one while away from them.

alan i did a bit of research after finding my SILVER thimble lol sorry mate
yours looks like to me a size 10 charles horner dorcas thimble i could be wrong and mostly am ,he sandwiched a layer of steel between two layers of silver. However, because of this steel core, he was prevented from putting the sterling hallmark on his pieces, its a lovely find though mate  Wink Wink

Oh Poo,
a most interesting thread. Recently, whilst rescuing a number of bronze artefacts from a scrap box in Spain, I noticed several thimbles but chose to ignore them. Never thought that thimbles could be so interesting.

               Nice find Alan.  Smiley

well, thats an excellent read JCB and a good call by nobby re using a magnet. So, i found my trusty attraction, and tested it on the thimble and guess what .... yep .. its NOT magnetic!

the thimble makers marks re CH match and could very well be a charles horner
