Imagine this:-

You are on a site you know to have Bronze Age activity, you have found flints for the period, You get a faint good signal and start digging . At 6" the signal is still in the hole, the same at 10",12",14",16",  By now you are into the edge of the hardpack. The signal is still in the hole. What would you be thinking? (or hopeing for)
Finally at about 18"
                              You find this.......
