Title: holiday finds on a little field
Post by: Mike on September 06, 2014, 01:03:26 PM
had a short 4 hour session in somerset were we stayed for 3 days enroute to cornwall .

managed to get permission on a small field close to were we stayed , although the field was heavy in grass and undetectable in lots of areas the amount of finds was amazing and the date range huge as you can see everything from roman , hammered Vicky pennies right up to a £1 coin , the silver spoon handle is a 1st for me and dates to 1815 , dug the spoon up and was very pleased indeed , filled hole in and was wondering were the bowl could be , 2ft away a great signal it must be the bowl ummm no , it was bobby moore in the shape of a esso petrol token  :(

any info on dates on the buckles and the odd thing far left with what appears to be a face on the ball shaped end would be great .

I will be returning in the winter when the grass is cut were im sure there is much much more to come  ;) ;)

Mike that item with the face on looks intereting, a better photo would be nice, it looks medieval to me is there any traces of enamel on it? Im not sure what there called, but I got a idea what it is ;)

Great stuff Mike - especially the mount - I've never seen one of these 'in the flesh'. Some more details about these mounts here:

Well done mucker I love those buckles,It looks like you've found a cracking bit of land there, but how are you going to eat your cornflakes without the spoon bowl ? and I hope you cleaned those caravan seat covers after :o :o :D
