I must admit, when i first started detecting on a whim, without any research and before joining a club, i had no idea about reporting finds or how to do it. had i have found something of apparent value, i most probably would have gone to the museum, but thats just the way i am. Obviously, having joined clubs and been educated its all apparent what procedures need to be followed.
I think every detector sold in the U.K. should include documentation explaining the Law, Scheduled sites, Portable antiquity scheme, gaining permission Etc.
