Found this a couple of weeks ago. It's basalt, very hard volcanic rock, and is  3 1\2 in. long with a circum. of 6in.
Eyes only find, nice one for Kev and Tyna.
Any ideas considered. Grin

Well it's definately not tree root. And it's not spotted, those marks are depressions. It's not pummis, it's basalt, black when wet and heavy.
And I can't comment on Rays airbed.

Any more ideas.Huh

Val - Solas is right its a club moss root fossil - 300 million years old before the time of trees from the carboniferous period -it can't be volcanic no fossills exist in igneous rock- Great fossil find!!!

Well, look no further, the Dinosaur id sitting right here.
And don't laugh but I've sent a note to our area FLO to ask if it should be recorded or if he thinks the local Museam might like it. (that was before I knew I could sell it) Angry Grin

Should have posted reply from FLO.
He said although he's no Geologist he has seen this kind of fossil before and believes they appear from time to time in coal mining areas, mainly the Rhondda and there abouts and confirmed the age of 300 - 360 million years.
PAS have no recording system for fossils unless exceptional.

And the state Ray leaves his bed in is his concern, not mine. Shocked Grin
