with garrett 250, got 3 nummus and a viccy halfpenny.

an interesting machine, made easier with the good advice received from fellow DW Garrett users. however, i noticed that the machines lightness encouraged faster swinging of the detector. the recovery rate was slow to non existent when swinging fast.

however when going slow, a lot more targets were hit. This poses the question that heavier machines produce better hit rates.

an interesting comparison was that my detector buddy and i went over the same piece of ground, i failed to pick up [at 13 inches] a colchester fibula brooch, which he easily hit with his explorer 2.

i congratulated him on his find - all the time wishing i'd taken mine out today.

Hi Alan  well done on your finds, the 250 is a good machine I had lots of fun with mine. But what you must remember is it wont reach those deeper targets. I think its horses for courses. most of the finds are in the top 4"/6" of soil so your 250 should cope with that. So in theory over say ploughed land the 250 would prob be better than the ex11 due to faster recovery/swing speed etc but on pasture where finds are going to be deeper then the ex would be the better machine. You take the 250 to places where there are village fetes/carnivals etc and the amount of coins you get is brilliant, I suppose the happy medium would be the T2 or F75. But as I said the 250 is a good little machine if you get on the right type of land with it.
Cheers
