Went out saturday looked around a farm i havent been on before had nothing all morning apart from a 1885 vicky penny. In the afternoon decided to try a different field and i am glad i did because within half an hour i found five roman lovelys .First i had a little constantine and then as i started to dig the second hole i got a bit excited because it was reading as silver on the machine i turned the turf over to expose  a rock underneath and there lying on top of the rock only 2 inches under the turf was a denarius of domitian 81-96 AD one of the cleanest coins i have seen and to say i was chuffed was a understatement followed by another 3 bronzes what a day !All found in different parts of the field and thats why this hobby is so enjoyable a bad day can turn into a great day in just half an hour i hope you enjoy the pics Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Wink

domitian 81 - 6ad,

reverse side, lettering suggests XI COS.CENS.P.P.P.

shows minerva standing, facing left resting on spear.

There is a similar coin but with slightly different lettering on the obverse for reference see spink 483, or RIC 140.

very nice find indeed

well done

That denarius is a stunner Adie. the coins seem to cover a long period of occupation, looks like you are in the right place to make more finds there. Will you be going back?   Grin

As Phil said Adie, " the old master strikes again". the denarius is a beauty but still five Roman in one field has to be worth a return mate, well done.
