Oooooh - well done Herbie! You always produce quality finds dude!

I bid on a George III shilling recently on FleaBay ( other auctions sites are available) and didn't win it at £30 plus. I did however bizarely win a George II half crown at £45. Anyway your condition is far superior to the one I was bidding on.

Got to add as well the copper would be a more than welcome addition to anyone's collection.

That shilling is one helluva coin. The copper isn't bad either.

Wow Herbie, both those coins are amazing.  Looks like they've been packed in dry sand since they were lost.

Lucky you. Grin

Superb!

Although not rare as collectors' coins, the earlier shillings of George III are very unusual as detecting finds. There are only two on UKDFD and one of those is this one! Here's the full write-up from Rod:

I know, I couldn't believe it when I saw the name on the copper, really pleased, they both came out of a small pasture field that has rarely been ploughed, the finds I've had out of there have been in fantastic condition, had a lovely tudor clothes fastener complete with all the enamel, I think it's a combination of lack of cultivation and maybe the soil make up, but whatever it is I love it Cheesy
