Out today with Salty, checking some new fields in Llantwit major.

Found these and loads of aircraft debris, possibly from war wrecks.

Anyway, the coin is a penny and I Think George 111, with a harp on the reverse.

The buckle looks interesting but dont know the date

Like Alan said, the buckle is 17th century, approx 1620-1680.

I have cleaned the coin as best I can, I think it says berni on the reverse. There is a harp with a crown above it but no date as far as I can see.

Any ideas? Come on Peter, A bit of a challenge for you! Grin

17th century is an excellent result for the buckle. It is still intact but heavily corroded. Have to bring it along on wednesday for mark.

The buckle was about the fiftieth find that I dug within 30 feet of the car, all the others were bits of shredded aluminium and gas taps strangely. Anything to do with the fifty foot long pile of human reclaimed poo on that part of the field I wonder? I thought it was compost till Salty turned up and identified it. I have no sense of smell as you know so I had no idea what it was. Roll Eyes

Still cant find a readable date on the coin. Wonder how irish coinage got to llanmaes? Maybe an irish farm labourer in whatever century it was. So could be 18th century then?

Eric they are fairly common finds, at least the Georgian examples and they were British coins so were used here as legal tender.
