Hi Everyone,

I have posted a picture of this a month ago, I was looking in the spinks cat. and see there are not many pennies with the centre like mine. Basically is it possible to narrow down the possibilities then for this coin, battered as it is, considering there are not many like that? Or at least can somebody give me a date range then IE. 1200-1400 as an example.

Thanks, Jonathan

Hi Neil,

Unfortunately there is absolutely nothing to see at all, so there is no point putting the picture up. It is completely smooth, I just thought it was a little easier to identify even without the bust side since the centre is star shaped rather than just being the ordinary cross! Is that not possible? Thanks for your help.

Cheers,
Jon

yep these coins were issued in the name of archbishops on so on hense the pattern in the centre,i have a couple similar and unfortunateley this is going to be hard to date  as these issues went on for a long time,,,,maybe looking at coins of bishop of durham, canterbury etc may point you in a general direction.

It's a Durham ecclesiastical mint of Bishop Booth penny of Edward IV. It's a 'D' in the centre of the cross, not a star. Spink 2115 - 2121. Date of issue 1471-76. Here's an example of 2115:

Now that is what I'm talking about!! That is the most impressive identification seen done in a very long time!! Three Cheers to Peter Smiley I just had a feeling there was some chance of getting this coin identified! I cannot Thank you enough! Now I can tell the farmer what it is. Thanks also to Paul, for he was on the right track also!! Thanks to everyone else who commented as well!!
