be careful of fakes on ebay there are lots !!
people rarely sell their garrett pointer as its such an essential piece of equipment. the second hand prices are not much different from the new prices.

Apologies for hijacking this thread, but do any of you protect your pinpointer by dipping the tip in .''PLASTI DIP''  or similar??   Or any other means such as those rubber sleeves yo see on flea bay.?
              Thanks.

I think some do use the sleeve but personally I've used mine for over 3 years in all weather and it's still going fine, there is a 2 year guarantee on them and at the end of the day it's a tool which isn't cheap so I'll be damned if I'm going to pay extra just so I can use it as intended Wink

NEMESIS    Yes, quiet a few of us use various methods. Shrink wrap seems popular. I got Hubby to do mine and just wrap electrical tape around the end and replace when necessary.

I agree Geoff but it makes sense on wet beaches when your prodding through gunk for hours.

Hi Val.  Is it just the stem you shrink wrap, then extra tape on the tip?  Or do you do the full handle and switch aswell?  There seems to be  a slight issue  at times  with dirt and moisture creeping into the switch aswell.

We did mine up to the top bit that screws off. Slight mistake with mine. I let John choose the 'Correct' shrink tube and it's really a bit too thick but it still works O.K. Does tend to dull the signal a bit so if you go down this route try and find some wide, THIN, stuff.  Certainly no probs. with damp getting in the speaker or switch and much easier to wash.
I dread to think how we'll get it off, if we have to.  And yes, tape around the tip.

   I
I use plastic tape on the tip,and use some rubber type sealant around the switch gromit, and where the light fits through
the body, you can put some on the threads of the back cover as well.
