Post by: adt69 on May 13, 2014, 03:05:07 PM
hi all
found these today and both look to be silver but there are no silver marks on them, the ring does look very old to me but i could be wrong.
It is hollowed out could it have come off something ?
any ideas

Hi Al,  have you tested the ring for silver ??   If it's not a modern-ish repro I might get a bit excited about it.  It's looks interesting.

Hi val
It has been tested and both items are silver.
Could the ring be very old as there are no hallmarks

certainly an interesting ring, i guess location of find might offer a clue as if it was field its far more likely to be old than if it was on a beach where its more likely to be a reproduction.
personally i think it has some age to it

Might be worth a second opinion Al.  It seems to have been in the ground a long time judging by the pitting and the wear on the pattern.

Al is it concave inside? If so then I would say it's a fitting from something rather than a finger ring as it would be far too painful to wear. ;)

I thought Walking Stick but wasn't sure if it is big enough but maybe it is.  Something like the collar on this one.

Hi
It is concave on the inside, I would say its not off a stick as its small I can only just get it on my little finger.

My other thought was a Parasol/Umbrella.  Being a Ladies item it would have been a bit more delicate.
