Title: Coil Cover?
Post by: JRD on August 31, 2010, 07:42:47 PM
OK another day and another daft question from the new kid on the block!

I thought the coil cover that came with my Garrett was to just protect it when not in use or in transport, but I am starting to understand you are suppose to leave it on when detecting?

Does this affect or reduce the signal at all?

Do other members use covers or do you go bare back?  :)

Thanks all in advance,
Jonathan

yep fella you are sopposed to leave cover on whilst tectin and i dont think it makes any differance to the detecter capabilities, ive never used one but know several people that do,basically if i buy i new tecter then i would buy control box, battery, coil cover.

ive never taken the thing off mate , it helps protect the coil and ive still found loads of stuff with it on. The machine still picks up the small items too mate like air gun pellots lol....  ;)

Ah thanks guys I was beginning to think that was the case!

Will put mine back on sharpish and keep the coil protected.

Cheers,
Jonathan

LEAVE IT ON!!!!!!
Hi JRD and welcome to the site.
The cover has absolutely no effect on the signal strength from the machine and is there to protect the coil. If you are not having to change your cover every year (at least once) then you are not keeping your coil low enough to the ground. I have just changed mine for this year and it had worn through on both sides.

Thanks guys for all your responses.

I have a cover - just did not realise I was suppose to use it while 'Tecting   :-[

Mine is now firmly on and staying there.

Jonathan

I'm so glad you asked that question Jonathan.  I've only been out with mine twice but both times i've kept the cover off.  It's a pain to take off each time so I'm glad it can just stay on.

always use the coil cover, however take it off when you clean your detector and clean out any mud or debris, give it a dry and clip it back on.
