what with the freezing fog, the scraping of the ice of the windscreen, the long traffic jams as a result of M1 gridlock, resulting in chaos on the sideroads .......

eventually we arrived at our roman site, 2 hours after we set out on what would normally be a 30minute journey or so. Still we donned gear, chatted to landowner and then settled into the detecting. My colleague got 3 roman - 3rd/4th century grots .... but i had a strange day, not finding anything remotely roman ... but theres a good chance the pinhead may be from that era.

i did enjoy the cross shaped artifact .. whatever it is, [any idea of period?],  ;plus upsetting my detecting buddy with the first ever hammered off this particular field .. and its a commonwealth as well .. cheffy!!  Grin Grin

plus a lovely eyes only find of an oyster shell!

enjoy looking at the finds

cheers

Cross seems an interesting item, not sure what to make of it.

Are the holes counter-sunk?

Good mix of finds there Al.  I'd say the 'mount' is the most interesting, possibly about the same age as the coin.

I found a lead weight that looks like yours today and a decorative 'mount' but the hole in mine is countersunk, so modern.

Hammies still aluding me as well. Cry
