Hi Bats welcome to  The detecting wales Forum i dont know a lot about the Xterra but im sure theres loads on here that do.
Your already a Detecting Wales forum member ;0)

Im not sure if there,s any spaces left for the forthcoming rally but generally all you have to do is just express an interest in coming,  simple as !

All we ask is you become an active forum member.
Being new to detecting im sure youve got loads of questions and we,ll be happy to help.

My advice would be when you get your Detector Look for a good friendly local Metal detecting club that way youll get the most out of your new hobby

All the best

I had a lend of an xterra 70 back in the summer and if 305 is as good as that there a good machine.
Have you googled Minielab X terra 305 reviews ? i always check everything i buy .

Have you looked on Ebay ? at least if you dont like the X terra you can upgrade without loosing any money in most cases

Hi Bats

Its only important to have Insurance if you wish to attend orginised Rally some will say its important anyway and all club insist on you having insurance its like a third party policy for a car its in case your actions while Detecting destroys property or harms a fellow Detectorist, very unlikely i know.

I dont know what FID or MCMD do with your premium because they dont seem to help metal detectorists in any way shape or form but thats another story .

It not that expensive and it does get a lot cheaper after a year.

If you decide to join a club for instance RARE we,ll apply for your insurace on your behalf

Hi Bats , and welcome to the forum,

My 1st , and 2nd machine have been the Whites DFX, not a beiginners machine by any standard, however I stuck it through and picked it up in no time. You got click and go programmes on most machines, Get used to those first Read the handbook I cant state that strong enough, then progress to the more difficult parts of the machine usage later.

Enjoy the forum fella , take part as much as you can. If you dont know ask! Try and visit us as often as possible. Greet new members. Dont forget its the forum members as a whole that make any forum successful.

Regards Rob

Bats . the F.I.D membership is £ 8.00 , ... I'm pretty sure of this £3.00 every year but £5.00 one off joining fee , you'll need 2 passport pics as well.

Hi Bats
I can only speak for FID because that who our Clubs with

FIB insurance cost £8.50 for new members and £3.50 renewal

Our club membership Is £15 1st year that includes a £5 joining fee and £10 there after

You,ll recieve a quarterly bulletin off FID

And as a Rare member your have the use of 1,000 of acre,s of club land (available after 3 club night attendences) Club Rallies all over Wales cost £5
And Bus trips to major Detecting rallys all over the Country, Bus trips cost £6.00 at the moment Plus the cost of the rally.
Hope this is of some help

all the best

No Problem Bats this is what the forums all about  ;D

I know its a lot to take in.
Me and my Father-n-law Kane, spent years doing the beaches and the odd field but for me joining a club was the best thing i could have done loads of advice and where else would you see 2,000 3,000 year old metal objects except in a museium.
