Title: 3 Hours and 2 silvers Post by: alun on November 27, 2013, 01:23:33 PM Been searching this permission for a short period of time, which has poduced dozens of buttons (which i may send onto legio) ::) Today produced two pre decimal silvers and a few degraded coins.
Any idea of how to clean the coins effectively with minimum damage? I used electrolysis on modern and pre decimal, but avoiding using on the older finds. Suggestions would be appreciated. Any sort of acid will clean them up (coke for instance), but clean them in warm water with a sponge afterwards. If they are still black, use a variation on the spit and foil method. in this case wrap the coin loosely in foil and put it into a solution of hot water and washing soda (I usually use a plastic tub and poor boiling water on to the washing soda). Again clean coin afterwards with water and a sponge. Copper coins are usually too far gone to do anything effective with them. |
