The other week, whilst detecting at Talacre sands with Richie Sixpence, I unearthed what I thought was and old radiator valve and threw it into the back of my finds bag, along with the other scrap of the day and never gave it any more thought.

Upon checking my scrap bag today; the item begins look very strange indeed. Anyone got an idea what it may be?

The main body is of brass; as is the tube that extends from the side of it. The bottom is ringed by small holes and is followed by a ceramic collar and some brass gauze held in place by a knurled brass locking collar. The tubing below the collar is of mild steel and it has several inches of what looks like stainless piano wire extending from it.
