Title: Re: Couple of hammie's for id please Post by: probono on January 10, 2014, 04:48:04 PM Top Edward III Groat (or half, it's a bit difficult to tell), London mint - I think series C, c.1351
Bottom coin, Edward I penny class 9b2 (star on breast, pot-hook letters), London mint c.1300 Title: Re: Couple of hammie's for id please Post by: Dale on January 10, 2014, 05:26:10 PM The bottom penny is actually a Bristol penny, star on breast as Roland said, its a slightly rarer type, its also struck on a slightly smaller flan.
Nice finds ;) Title: Re: Couple of hammie's for id please Post by: Romanick on January 10, 2014, 05:31:27 PM The bottom penny is actually a Bristol penny, star on breast as Roland said, its a slightly rarer type, its also struck on a slightly smaller flan. Nick North is good ;) especially volume 1 for the early coinage, it makes the spink book look silly but its great for the pricing £££ ;) Also id be very pleased with finding your penny. I'm finding that I don't really use North anymore - the series of books by Wren and Withers I find much more useful - and I suppose you can buy them when you find any coins - they Wren books come in 'Short Cross', 'voided long cross' and 'Long cross' vols. They have clear images. There's also the stuff on PAS and the like, but I suppose with those you have to have a good hunch about what you have before you look it up!
