Well here goes with an answer (of sorts).

This coin was advertised on a dealer's website as Edward II Class 13. However, this doesn't look quite right to me. In Class 13 the left side ornament has almost completely disappeared.

In this coin, the left ornament is a bit unclear, but is stlll there (maybe a bit broken)

Therefore, I think the coin is Class 11.

But, the obverse is 11b, with the pointed-backed E, and the reverse appears to me to be 11a, with rounded-backed Cs.

My overall concusion then, is that this is a Class 11b/11a mule, which are known to exist.

Those that said 11a or 11b, give yourself a pat on the back. If you said 13, you're doing no worse than the dealer.

I haven't got them sorted yet, but I'll post some pics of the crowns of the different Edward II classes in a day or two so that this makes sense.

Very interesting Peterh,it can be quite confuseing but certainly worth studying the variations, look forward to the next lot Grin   Dave
